Pita Bread

Ingredients

1 tbsp sugar

1½ tsp active dry yeast

1¼ – 1½ cup lukewarm water

1 ½ cup whole wheat flour

2 cups all purpose flour

½ tsp salt

1 tbsp olive oil

Directions

Firstly, take the the sugar, yeast and water.

Add the sugar to the water and mix well.

Next, add the yeast to the sugar and water mixture and set aside for 5 minutes.

In a new bowl, add the whole wheat flour.

Next, add the all purpose flour.

Then, add the salt.

Finally, add the yeast mixture.

With your hands, knead the dough for about 5 minutes.

Finally, add the oil, and knead for a few more minutes.

Form the dough into the shape of a ball.

Cover the dough and set aside for at least an hour.

After and hour, the dough should more than double in size.

Tear a piece of the dough and form it into a ball.

Do the same for the remaining dough.

On a floured surface, roll the dough into a circle.

Repeat the process for the remaining dough.

Once the dough has been rolled out, cover it with a kitchen towel and let it sit for 10 – 15 minutes.

Take your oven rack, turn it upside down and sprinkle it with semolina. This is done so that the pita bread does not stick to the oven rack.

Put the pita bread on the bottom rack of the oven.

Bake it in the oven at 180 degrees for 2 – 3 minutes.

After a couple of minutes, it should puff up like this.

After 2 – 3 minutes, flip it and bake it for another 2 – 3 minutes.

If you want the pita to be cooked a little more, just cook it on a open flame for a few seconds on each side.
