Cinnamon Rolls

 

Ingredients (for the cinnamon rolls)

¾ cup milk, warm

1½ tbsp lemon juice

¼ cup sugar

2 tbsp dry yeast

2¼ flour (extra to dust the pan)

¼ tsp baking powder

¼ tsp baking soda

a pinch of salt

¼ cup vegetable oil

1 tbsp butter (extra to brush on the pan)

Ingredients (for the filling

½ cup packed brown sugar

1 tbsp cinnamon powder

3 tbsp butter, melted

Ingredients (for the glaze)

½ cup powdered sugar

1 tbsp water

Method

This is a list of ingredients for the cinnamon rolls.

Heat the milk so that it is just lukewarm.

To that, add the lemon juice.

Mix and set aside for 5 minutes.

After 5 minutes, add the sugar.

And mix it in.

Then, add the yeast.

Give it a mix, cover and let it rest in a warm place for about 10 minutes.

This is how the yeast mixture will look like after 10 minutes.

To a bowl, add the flour.

Then, add the baking powder.

Next, add the baking soda.

Finally, add the salt.

Mix everything together.

To the flour, add the yeast mixture.

Add the vegetable oil.

And finally, add the melted butter.

Knead the dough for for about 10-15 minutes, till the dough comes together.

This is how it looks like after kneading.

Cover the dough and let it rest in a warm place for at least half an hour.

This is how the dough looks like once it has risen.

Turn it out onto a surface.

Flatten it out with your hands.

Then, using a rolling pin, roll it so the dough is ¼ inch thick.

Set aside.

These are the ingredients for the filling.

To a bowl, add the brown sugar.

Then, add the butter.

Next, add the cinnamon.

And mix everything together.

Spread this mixture onto the rolled out dough.

From one end, start rolling the dough and pack it as tightly as possible.

Cut it into equal parts.

Lay down each roll into an oven safe baking dish and let it rise for half an hour.

This is how they look like after the second rise.

Bake in a pre heated oven at 180 degrees for 18-20 mins or till the cinnamon rolls have been baked. Set aside.

Mix the icing sugar and water to make a thick glaze.

Drizzle this all over the cinnamon rolls.

This cinnamon rolls stay in an airtight container for 3-4 days, and for a week when refrigerated.
