
Bring out the artist in you with this easy to make garden focaccia bread!
Focaccia is a flat, oven baked bread, similar to baking a pizza. The difference is that a pizza is baked immediately after flattening it, whereas focaccia bread needs one more rise before it is baked.
To make the garden focaccia, we have used simple vegetables like peppers, onions and basil leaves to decorate it. But you can use any vegetables that you like or have on hand.
The flat white dough is your blank compass. So get your creative juices flowing, and give this pretty bread a go!

Ingredients
To Make The Yeast Mixture
- 100 gms water, warm
- 10 gms sugar
- 2 tsp yeast
To Make The Dough
- 180 gms all purpose flour
- 40 ml olive oil (to be used in batches)
- 5 gms salt
To Make The Bread
- For the Flowers: red and orange peppers, cut into thin circles; one black and one green olive
- For the Sun: Yellow Pepper, cut into one small circle and long think strips
- For the Stems and Leaves: stems from any herbs, a handful of basil leaves
- For the Grass: Quarter of an Onion, sliced thinly
- a sprinkle of mixed dried herbs
Method
Step1: To Make The Yeast Mixture
- To a bowl with water, add the sugar and yeast. Give it a good mix, and let it rest for at least half an hour.
Step2: To Make The Dough
- To another bowl, add the flour, yeast mixture, 10ml of the olive oil and salt.
- Knead it into a dough. This should take about 15-20 minutes.
Step3: To Make The Bread
- Add 10ml oil to a rectangle bowl, put the dough in and let it rest in a warm place for at least an hour. Once its risen, poke holes into the dough with your fingertips.
- Decorate the bread with the peppers, olives, basil leaves and onions, and sprinkle the mixed herbs on top.
- Then, add the remaining olive oil.
- Bake in a pre heated oven at 180 degrees for 12 – 15 minutes or till done. Serve fresh.
